Topic: “Airborne Particulate Matter: from Concentrations to Health Impacts”
Each year, pollution is responsible for approximately nine million deaths worldwide; indoor and outdoor air pollution account for about seven million of these deaths. We will broadly summarize the domestic and global health impacts of air pollution and place it in the broader context of other health risk factors. Case studies of our recent domestic (St. Louis, Louisville) and international (Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan) research will highlight efforts to better understand human exposures to particulate matter air pollution and provide a science foundation for public health interventions.
